What are Startup Applications?
A series of programs begin to run every time you start or restart windows. These programs are known as “startup applications.” Many of these programs are necessary for the proper performance of your operating system, but some are not. If you always choose “standard installation” when you install a program, chances are that most of the programs on your computer are related to one or more startup applications.
Startup applications are not necessarily the same programs you install on your computer. For example, you may have photo editing software installed that does not start immediately upon booting Windows. But that same photo editing software may install startup applications that check automatically for updates or run in the background in case you plug in your camera.
While most startup applications are intended to be friendly, they are often unnecessary and can cause your computer to run and start very slowly. The majority of applications that automatically begin to run when you reboot your computer can be accessed just as easily from the Start menu or from a desktop shortcut.
Mobile phone management utilities, instant messaging clients, music software, and social networking programs are all examples of programs that don’t need to be run every time you start your computer. You can start all of these programs when you are ready to use them.
If you have too many startup applications, you will have to wait a long time for Windows to boot. Sometimes, if the startup applications are using too much of your system’s resources, they can cause your computer to be unstable. The best way to ensure that your computer starts to run as quickly as possible is to minimize the number of startup applications.
